A 5 lesson Curriculum using the DriveAbout Mats

Lesson 1:
You’re the Driver
Students explore responsibility, risk, distractions, passengers, seatbelts, signs and the choices that shape safe behaviour on the road.
Lesson 2:
Local Area
Students apply road rules in familiar places around home, school and community roads, including crossings, give-way rules, speed choices and hazard awareness.
Lesson 3:
Highway
Students learn how decisions change in higher-speed environments, including safe following distance, overtaking, fatigue, roadworks, heavy vehicles and changing conditions.
Lesson 4:
Town/Suburbs
Students practise navigating busier shared spaces, including intersections, roundabouts, school zones, parking areas, bus stops, pedestrians and cyclists.
Lesson 5:
City
Students bring their learning together in more complex traffic environments, including lane selection, traffic lights, multi-lane roads, vulnerable road users and route planning.
